Celebrate Good Neighbor Day

National Good Neighbor Day began in the 1970s when Becky Mattson of Lakeside, Montana, wanted to encourage people to connect with those living around them. The idea gained national recognition when President Gerald Ford proclaimed a National Good Neighbor Day in 1976, followed by President Jimmy Carter in 1978. Today, it is celebrated each year on September 28 as a reminder that strong communities begin with something wonderfully simple: being a good neighbor.
